Our Heritage

The Enduring Root of Carvallo: From Ancient Galicia to Biscay.
The proud surname Carvallo traces its roots back to the ancient heart of northwestern Spain, originating as a key variant of the Galician and Portuguese name Carballo. At its core, the name holds a beautiful, natural meaning: it is derived from the word for oak tree (carvalho in Portuguese), signifying "the place where the oaks come from." This powerful emblem suggests the earliest ancestors were intrinsically linked to the land, referencing early family settlements surrounded by robust forests in the mountainous terrain of Galicia, Spain. Intriguingly, the specific spelling of "Carvallo," featuring the letter 'v,' is considered the Lusitan form of the name and dates its origins back to Viscaya (Biscay), marking a distinct branch of the lineage that journeyed across the Iberian Peninsula.

A Legacy Planted and Spread: The Carvallo Global Journey.
While the original tree stood firm in Spain, the Carvallo lineage proved to be a family of explorers and pioneers, whose branches spread dramatically across the globe, especially during the 19th century. Following the expansion of Spanish colonialism, members of the Carvallo family sailed for the New World, establishing deep roots in countries such as Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the United States, and Venezuela. This migration was not just a change of location; it was a commitment to building new legacies. For instance, the Carvallo branch that settled in Valencia, Venezuela, became a powerful influence, contributing businessmen, lawyers, and politicians, with several members serving as state governors. This history illustrates a family heritage defined by both its ancient connection to the mighty oak and its enduring spirit of leadership and establishment across continents.

A New Chapter Down Under
The modern history of the Carvallo name includes a notable journey to the shores of Australia. In 1979, one branch of the family undertook a significant migration, travelling from the Chilean port city of Valparaíso to the Antipodes. They successfully established a new home and lineage in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, continuing the family’s long tradition of exploration and finding new ground.

"The Carvallo name is a history written in the enduring strength of the oak, carried by explorers across oceans, and replanted in every corner of the world."
